Bee Pollen for Dogs: How I Help Petal’s Allergies Naturally
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that Petal and I spend a lot of time out in the grass. She’s on pack walks most days, rolling in the long grass, sniffing around, and always in close contact with the things that make her itchy such as grass, pollen, and even ticks. I have never talked about her allergies because after 2 bouts with medicated shampoos as a puppy and being told, “she might grow out of it,” I looked into sorting it myself and we haven’t had a flare up since. But before we found solutions it was just constantly dreading the scratching, red skin, and needing to reach for antibiotic soap more often than I’d like.
That all changed when I added bee pollen into her diet.
Why I Love Bee Pollen for Dogs
Petal gets bee pollen every single morning with her breakfast. Because she’s always exposed to allergens, I keep it year-round, not just seasonally. It slowly builds up in her system and helps her body handle those triggers naturally. Unlike some treatments that stop working over time, bee pollen just keeps on doing its thing.
The difference has been incredible. Petal is so much less itchy, her skin looks calmer, and we haven’t had a single flare-up since she’s been on it. Best of all, I haven’t had to use antibiotic soap once. It’s become one of those “non-negotiable” parts of our daily routine.
My Allergy Toolkit for Petal
Bee pollen is the star of the show, but it’s not the only thing that helps keep Petal comfortable. Here’s what I pair it with:
The Fur Love products – Their shampoo, conditioner, and paw soaks are gentle enough to use as often as we need (which is a lot as an infamous poo roller.) The coconut paw soak is a favourite in our house, and it’s been a lifesaver for itchy paws.
Raw diet – Feeding raw has done wonders for her skin and coat, not to mention her energy levels. It even helps with her snoring!
Bee pollen – A simple sprinkle on her breakfast every morning. It’s natural, easy, and effective.
Together, these three things mean Petal can live her best life outdoors without being held back by allergies.
Where I Get Bee Pollen
I source my bee pollen locally here in New Zealand, and I’ve made it available through Pup and Running so other dogs can enjoy the benefits too. It comes straight from nature, no additives, no nasties, just the good stuff your dog’s body can use.
Final Thoughts
If your dog struggles with allergies, bee pollen might just be the missing piece. For us, it’s been a total game changer. Petal can enjoy her pack walks, roll in the grass, and nap without constantly scratching herself raw. And for me, it’s peace of mind knowing she’s more comfortable and healthy, naturally.
Sometimes it’s the simplest things that make the biggest difference.
