Blueberry Dog Treat Cookies

I enjoy baking but I can never finish what I have baked! Baking for my dog means it always gets finished! Dog friendly recipes can be tough to come by. There are a lot of recipes all over the internet, but some have flour and milk and these things that might be OK in small doses, but I would rather not give my dog at all. I have a 4-ingredient recipe that I enjoy making and Petal enjoys eating!

You will need:

  • 2 ½ tablespoons of coconut oil

  • 1 ½ cups of whole wheat flour (plus a little extra for rolling out the dough)

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ cup of blueberries

It’s a pretty simple recipe! First things first, you will need to preheat the oven on bake to 180°C or 350°F.

Add the coconut oil to your mixing bowl and melt it in the microwave.

One the coconut oil is melted add in the 1 and a ½ cups of flour and mix until all the coconut oil is soaked up.

Mix in the eggs one by one and you should have a pretty dough-like mixture!

Lastly, fold in the blueberries.

Pop some flour on your surface where you will roll your dough out and form the dough into a ball with your hands, then, roll it out on your floured surface! You may also need to add flour to the top of your dough to stop it sticking to your rolling pin.

Get your baking tray ready with either a non-stick spray or some baking baking paper.

Roll out your dough to about half a cm thick (a quarter of an inch) and start cutting out your shapes. My favourite, because they’re dog treats, is bone-shaped cookie cutters!

Once you have cut the shapes out, keep reforming it, and rolling it until you have no more dough left, you may need to keep adding flour throughout this process as the oil can make it quite sticky throughout the process. When you have no dough left it is time to pop them in the oven!

Your oven should be all warmed up by now so pop in your cookies and bake for 15 minutes.

Once the 15 minutes is up, pull them out of the oven, let them cool! One of the most important steps!

Once cooled – feed away! I hope your pup enjoys them as much as mine does!

Store them in an airtight container for 5 days or – you can freeze them for extended freshness! Enjoy!
